My Story

Most people don’t know how to support grieving friends. Often it feels awkward. I was one of those people.

Abruptly that changed in 2012 when personal loss became my costly grief education.

Twelve days after my son’s wedding, I was thrown into the unimaginable task of planning his funeral. At the age of 23, Jordan died in a workplace accident. The trauma of child loss threatened to steal my divine spark.

Through the caring support of courageous friends –Hope Heroes– I found renewed hope and healing. Life can be good again.

Fueled with desire to help others and inspired by “Hope Heroes” I wrote, “The Little Black Funeral Dress.” This guide is filled with practical support for both the grieving person and their friends.

Lived experience, biblical insights and the Death & Grief Studies Certification with Dr. Alan Wolfelt have shaped my understanding of grief and mourning.

As a grief educator and founder of CornerBend Grief Ministries, I long for every grieving soul to experience the life-giving care of Hope Heroes.

Hope is a healing force.

Hope Heroes lend hope to broken hearts because each one matters to God.
